Vice Admiral Ahmad Kamarulzaman joined the Navy in February 1977 after completing his studies from the Royal Military College.

He is currently the Joint Force Commander headquartered in Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur. Admiral Kamarulzaman has held various positions in the Navy which includes Fleet Commander headquartered in Lumut, Commander Naval Region 2, headquartered in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and also the Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans (N5) and Operations (N3) at the Navy Headquarters, Ministry of Defence. His last sea appointment was as Commanding Officer of KD JEBAT (FFG 29).

 

Kamarulzaman is a 1996 Distinguished Graduate of the US Naval Staff Course, Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island and also a Distinguished Graduate of the Fu Hshing Kang College, Republic of China in Political Warfare. He also attended the International Surface Warfare Officer’s Course at the Naval Amphibious School in Coronado, San Diego. He also qualifies as a Principle Warfare Officer from the HMS DRYAD, Portsmouth United Kingdom. He also attended the International Crisis Management Course at the National Administrative Institute (INTAN), Kuala Lumpur and various other military courses both local and also in Australia and the US.

 

Admiral Kamarulzaman is a regular speaker on Maritime Security and has either addressed or chaired various seminars and conferences including the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) workshops in India and Kuala Lumpur, the U.S. Military Operations (MILOPS) Conference in Singapore, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Conference in Jakarta, the Littoral Defense Conference in Singapore, the Electronic Warfare Conference in London and the MIMA International Conference in Kuala Lumpur.

 

He holds an MBA from the University of Strathclyde Business School, Scotland and a MA in Defense Studies and International Relations from the National University of Malaysia. He completed the Executive Business Management Program in 2009 at the Keenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina, USA.

 
Admiral Kamarulzaman was conferred various decorations at Federal and State levels and also the first recipient of the Chief of Navy Commendation Medal.
