TRANSFORMATION AND MODERNIZATION OF THE FLEET Presently, the RMN fleet consists of 15 classes or types, were built by 7 different countries. Moreover, most of the ships in RMN's Fleet are now more than 40 years old and this has created greater challenges to manage their issues. Considering the trending of budgets allocation for the Navy, RMN concluded that business can no longer be as usual. Anticipating this situation, RMN has to take a swift action by coming out with a comprehensive and doable programme on addressing issue of capability gap for future procurements. Responding to the situations, the Navy has turned those challenges into opportunities by formulating a creative and innovative Transformation Programme known as #15to5. The transformation of fleet is consolidated from 15 to 5 classes of ships without reducing the number of platforms.  The programme started in late 2016 and endeavor until 2032.  Along the transition from 15 to 5 classes, the RMN will also phasing out the older fleet by stages.
